Getting to Hotel
There is no big commercial airport in Salina Cruz. The nearest one for most tourists from abroad would be Huatulco, about two hours’ drive to the west along beautiful coastal highway 200, an area also perfect for road trips. Cars can be rented right at the airport and first-class ADO buses run between Huatulco and Salina Cruz as well. Alternatively, a much smaller domestic only airport Ixtepec lies about forty five minutes north receiving flights from Mexico City-this is apparently favored by business travelers.
If you are arriving by bus, which remains one of the most common modes of travel throughout all Mexico, then note well that Salina Cruz is a major hub on the Pacific-to-the-Gulf (Coatzacoalcos) and state capital (Oaxaca City) routes at the ADO Bus Terminal. From there, it’s just a short cheap taxi ride to the hotel. Taxis in Salina Cruz have no meters but work perfectly well within a system of zones-fares; they’re also plentiful and generally safe. If driving your own car here though navigate carefully through many one-way streets plus heavy truck traffic due to port! The fact that this place offers secure parking should not be underestimated either leaving any vehicle parked overnight somewhere downtown.
This hotel is a perfect midpoint rest stop along the Transisthmian Highway. Sometimes the road conditions in the Isthmus are unpredictable, with frequent construction (particularly of the new Interoceanic Corridor), and roadblocks, hence reaching Alebrijes can be comparable to comfort at a finish line. Remember to download offline maps before you get there since cellular signal gets very weak in the mountain passes on approach to the city.
